Black Eyed Peas

I know that the Black Eyed Pea album “The E.N.D.” (The End Never Dies) has been out since June, but I have officially fallen in love with the album and will be purchasing it today! Riding in the car, the other day, I heard the new single “Meet Me Halfway.” I loved it from the first few bars. Today while paroozing the web and blogging to you lovely people, I saw that they have a video for “Meet Me Halfway.” I love BEP and this song, so it was no surprise I would adore the video. I hope you all enjoy it as well.

Kid Kudi’s album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day,” debuted Tuesday and he has a treat for you! Now on myspace you can purchase Kid Kudi’s album for a $3.99 download. WOW! Now I know we’re in a recession, but we have to support our artist and I think we all can do it for $3.99. So hurry over. Its a promotion so it will not last long.

Pink and Shakira

Pink and Shakira

Both of these ladies are extremely talented and Pink rocked her performance on last night’s VMAs, but I think neither one of them got the memo that the dress was already set to be debuted last night.  Iwant to hear from you all who wore it the best.

What an AWESOME way to close out the show!

"Empire State of Mind"

Last night’s VMAs has to rank as the best show we have seen in awhile. From the fashions to the actions to the stage, I was thoroughly entertained. There is so much to talk about; I don’t know where to begin. For those of you who missed the award winners, here is a recap:

  • Video of the Year: Beyonce  “Single Ladies(Put a Ring On It)”
  • Best New Artist: Lady Gaga “Poker Face”
  • Best Hip-Hop Video: Eminem “We Made You”
  • Best Male Video: T.I. ft. Rihanna “Live Your Life”
  • Best Pop Video: Britney Spears “Womanizer”
  • Best Rock Video: Green Day “21 Guns”
  • Best Female Video: Taylor Swift “You Belong With Me”

Congratulations to all of them. I believe that everyone won in their own rightful places. Now, I did not want to discuss the “Kanye Catastrophe,” but I have to. When I saw him up there, I thought he was going to make a joke of it and actually congratulate Taylor. However, he decided to be Kanye and steal her joy as well as embarrass Beyonce. Some are using Kanye’s alcohol level (seen on the red carpet with a bottle of Hennessey) as an excuse for his behavior, but I am not! Alcohol is never a reason for anything. I am sure many of us thought B should have gotten the award, but then I started to really think about it. Taylor Swift is a country pop artist and winning best female was only right. I adore the girl and the growth and change she has made in her career thus far, kudos Taylor. I think everyone is forgetting that video of the year trumps all the rest. Of course Beyonce could have won best female, but she is best of the year, which means she could have won in all the other categories that she was up for. I love both of these beautiful ladies and commend Beyonce for allowing Taylor to get her dream back.

The Lovely Winning Ladies

The Lovely Winning Ladies

As for fashions, there was so much I oogled over last night, and some things I was disturbed by (Lady Gaga’s face coverings). I was able to find quite a bit of the red carpet happenings, thanks to MTV.  Beyonce looked sexy yet refined as always. I love that she went for red, and I adored the pockets on her dress. I would also like to give kudos to B’s lace bejeweled leotard she performed in. FAB! Wonder if Mrs. Knowles is the designer. Taylor Swift is my favorite new comer and she looked gorgeous in her backless dress. She was tastefully sexy and the single beaded strap was what made it that way. The City’s, Whitney Port, was simplistically elegant as usual. I have always watched and admired Whitney’s style ever since she debuted on The Hills. Her style was what also landed her own show.  Whitney gets best dressed out of the The Hills and The City gal pals. Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Lo Bosworth, and Olivia Palermo all looked nice, but had nothing on Whitney.  Kristin’s dress might have tickled some fancies, but I couldn’t get with the shoes and the dress as an ensemble.

Many celebs chose classic black for the evening. Ne-Yo and Swizz Beatz both looked handsome and clean cut in their all black attire.  Nelly Furtado, Madonna, and Alicia Keys were the exquisite ladies in black. Nelly’s dress was beautiful with what appeared to be black studs; and reminded me of the Givenchy Studded Zipper Sandals from yesterday’s post. Madonna needs no fancy dress or accessories, because she has time on her side. I really believe she has found the fountain of youth. I adore Alicia’s red carpet dress, but it was her performance ensemble that I loved. Glitter tights with a simple black tunic-tee, metal chunked necklace, and shoes to die for. Alicia is one classy lady, you have to love her. As for celebrities in black, the much anticipated Dirty Money clan was not so fortunate on how their attire turned out. This was awkward for me as I am used to the Diddy that must have everything PERFECT! The girls were kind of thrown together and Diddy could have come with a little more flava. I just was not impressed by a group that is to debut an album soon. Ah ha! Maybe the album has them under stress and the VMAs were the least of their worries. Let’s just hope.  As for Miss Solange, she looked radiant in her one-sleeved ribbon ruffled dress. The Barbie pink lips have been her new thing since the new do and I love it. Kid Kudi who is adorabley handsome was also in the building.

Before we go into my fashion flops and oh so ordinary, I have to mention Katy Perry and Leighton Meester’s metallic attire. Katy Perry has a great body so she killed in her armor inspired silver dress. As for those celebs who just seemed to be present, I have a few. Amarie and Cassie are both known for their hair and showing off their legs. Amarie has dwindled into just another pretty girl and Cassie just needs attention. J Lo’s dress did not win it for me. I sometimes think celebs, or their stylist, forget that when you want to make a statement or stand out, you still must be FASHIONABLE! Amber Rose showed up in a printed bodysuit with gold accessories and Miss Keri Baby decided to go with a black embroidered jumpsuit with a new do. I like the cat suit idea for Amber, but I kind of feel something was missing. I adored Keri’s hair and her look all together. I give the plunge and bodysuit award to Keri and ask that Dawn (of Dirty Money) and Amber Rose please try again next year.

All-in-all, the show was a success minus a few flukes (Kanye and Lil Mama). The show was closed out with what I saw as perfection. Jay-Z and Alicia set the tone and was the cherry on top. “Empire State of Mind” is a genius song simply because it is so true; New York City is so inspiring.

I could sit and write all day on last night’s fashions and events, but I am sure you all have read enough. I warned you all with last week’s post that the VMAs were coming and in full effect. I hope you all enjoyed, I sure did!

Solange, Rihanna, and Ciara

The Video Music Awards will be airing live this Sunday at 9 PM ET. I’m eager to see what fashions will be debuted on the carpets. This is just a brief recap of last year’s events. Some like to use the VMAs as a time to change a “do” or switch up a style. Rihanna chose a shorter cut, as well as Ciara. I’m hoping Chris B. will be present, even though he isn’t performing, but my anticipation of hot performances is high.

For those Trueblood fans, you have your work cut out for you keeping up with both shows %-)

jayz at press

On August 31st Jay-Z held a press conference announcing he would be putting on a concert as a charity fundraiser for the 9/11 anniversary.  The concert entitled, “Answer the Call,” will be held on 9/11 at Madison Square Garden. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, September 8th, and will cost $50. Jay wants to give back to those who answered the call first, many of those being NYPD and the NY fire department.  The proceeds of the concert will be donated to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.

As we all know, Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 is scheduled to hit stores on 9/11. The artist will perform some of his new material from the album, and might even feature surprise guests. WOW! If I were living in NY right now, you could definitely count on seeing me there. You can’t beat the experience of buying the album and attending the concert…and for under $70!! I am so excited that Jay has decided to give back for 9/11, in such an awesome way!

Now, being who I am, I had to speak on Mrs. Carter. Just as we all expected, Beyonce was present at the press conference in support of Jay and his cause. Beyonce wore a black 3.1 Philip Lim tiered zipper skirt with an almost sheer black tank. I have heard some critics say the skirt is not a good fit for her, but I beg to disagree. B, as always, was appropriately dressed for the occasion and not overly trendy, so kudos to her; and Jay was stylistically ready for the press conference as well. I find the couple to complement one another very well. It was recently said that the couple does a date night once a week at a Brooklyn pizzeria. Well of course, NO ONE can live happily with all work and no play. We know this duo prides itself on personal privacy so this detailed information could only be retrieved by the one and only Ms. Oprah herself.

Overall, Jay and B are always two steps ahead and doing things B-I-G…I’m not mad at all, it’s my motivation!

gagaboltonStory photo: Michael Bolton Teams Up With Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga…boy has she been the talk of the town, I mean media..lol. However, it isn’t over yet. Ms. Gaga has sparked the media’s interest with talk of her and Michael Bolton formulating a collaboration. The song is titled “Murder My Heart” and will be featured on Bolton’s upcoming album, One World Love, scheduled to debut at the end of the month. Mr. Bolton fell in love with the artist’s talent after hearing her music, and agreed to work with her.  Michael stated that, “she reminded him of the young Madonna.” Wow! That’s a lot to live up to. Gaga has always been a fan of the artist and was more than ready to get to work.

Well Ms. Gaga, you’ve got your work cut out for you, living up to Ms. Madonna, but I think you’re off to a great start.

I wonder if Michael will use this song as a single…we shall see. Keep your ears open!

Kanye West “Paranoid” http://www.imeem.com/hiphopvideos/video/PyBnT4A_/kanye-west-paranoid/

Ok, so I may be very late on seeing this video, but I just saw it for the first time and LOVED it!!! Kanye’s themed videos have been a breath of fresh air in the video world. This video is one of the many reasons he is up for a VMA! Ri Ri was a smart way to go for the leading role, and almost played that part a little too well, but you didn’t hear that from me 😉
